PTA Raffle Prizes

We are looking for some additional help to fun raise this year. We normally approach local businesses for donations for our raffle prizes. If you work for a local company would you mind picking up a letter from the school office and taking it into your employer, this way you can offer, on behalf of the PTA, a personal touch to the task of asking for a raffle prize.
If you own a business and feel you'd be able to donate a raffle prize then we would be very grateful if you could drop your donation off in the school office with your company details so we can ensure your donation is recognised.
Thank you very much for any help you can give.
Gill, Heather and Jenny.

Voices for Ty Hafan

What a fabulous day! Bendigedig! All children "performed" in class in the morning - and a few items from each class performed in front of the whole school in the afternoon. We had a mixture of songs, poems, stories, dances, magic acts - and a whole load of very funny jokes! Mr Monk was the compere - and we wont forget his rendition of "On the Ning Nang Nong" in a hurry! Diolch yn fawr to Mrs Evans for videoing the items chosen - a DVD will be sent to Ty Hafan with our good wishes ....Don't forget to send in your sponsorship money as soon as you collect it. It's a very worthy cause !
Da iawn pawb!

New Term - Starts Wednesday 7th September

Dear parents and children,
I am sure that you are all excited that school starts tomorrow for all pupils except those in the Nursery who have different starting dates.

There have been a lot of changes during the holiday to enable the Nursery to move to the former SEN building, this has involved new fencing and gates to keep the children safe when they are outside. As a result the side entrance from the park will only be for nursery children and all other children should use the main gate and go around to the back of the school via the junior yard. As the Nursery do not start until next Monday [12th September] the side gate will be closed until then.

The builders only finished on Saturday and there are still things to do but once complete, having a single Nursery and our SEN Classes next to our mainstream classes will be wonderful.
I look forward to seeing you all tomorrow, including an early start for those in Breakfast Club which opens at the usual time.

Thank you for your continued support

50p Trail

The PTA would like to say a great big thank you to everyone who took part in the 50p fundraising trail. The children were all so sensible and together, we transformed the hall with the words ‘YSGOL MAESYBRYN PRIMARY’ spelled out in silver coins across the middle and 26 rows of copper coins above and beneath them. Between us, we managed to raise £414.56! Well done everyone!

Thanks also to The Royal Mint for their generous donation of the London 2012 Olympic coins for each of the children and a silver proof coin for us to raffle at a later date.
Last but certainly not least, our grateful thanks go to Mr. Price of Crown Hill Post Office and Spar for kindly counting the money for us. It took four of us all afternoon just to bag it all up.
As far as the challenge goes…although we were inside, we would have had sufficient coins to surround the school almost twice!!! Da iawn pawb!

Visit from Holyoakes

On Friday 10th June the children from Holyoakes Field First School in Redditch visited our class.  We had a very busy day during which the children from both schools participated in an art activity, a tour of the school and completed their own questionnaires with their partners.  We also sang a song from the Eisteddfod, performed a Welsh dance and Jordan recited the poem 'Cadw-Mi-Gei'.  I am very pleased to say that the day was a great success.  The children got on with each other really well and it was a pleasure to see them all playing together in the yard at lunchtime.  Thanks to all the children for the enthusiasm and excellent behaviour they demonstrated throughout the day.

The police have been informed, and the children involved have given fairly clear descriptions of the two men involved. It is also hoped that CCTV in the area may help to identify the car.

Book Day - Friday 6th May

Dear Parents,
As mentioned in a previous letter Maesybryn’s Book day was due to take place on Friday 8th April. We have now decided to delay this event to coincide with Children’s Book Week, which is during the week beginning Monday 2nd May. Therefore our Book Day will now take place on Friday 6th May.

We would like children to dress up as their favourite book or nursery rhyme character on this day. We will be holding a Book Day Parade so that all the lovely costumes can be admired.

We would also appreciate it if each child would bring in a book for Africa. These books will be sent to Sikusi School in Mbale, Uganda and will be used to resource their developing library. These can be new or used as long as they are in a good condition.l
Sorry for any inconvenience that this change of date may cause.
