Helicopter Visit

A big thank you to Sophie Grenfell's father for bringing the police helicopter to school today. The children (and the staff) were really excited to see it land on the school field. All of the Nursery and Reception children got to sit in it and everyone else had a photograph by it and a good look inside. As soon as we have some photographs from the ground and the air!!!! we shall post them on the blog. I hope all of the children will remember this for a long time.

Dylan's Bike Ride to Sikusi

Well Done to everyone who has cycled this week. We have now covered over 2,500 miles and "Virtual Dylan" is currently crossing the Sahara Desert in Libya. Only another 1505 miles to go so if you can come in and help, please do at any time from 8am until 4.30pm over the next few days. Over £3000 has already been raised by school and through the giving page.

Brilliant effort,

Mr. Roberts

Stranger Danger

You should have all had a text about an incident last night at 5pm close to the school. Two teenagers in a  black Renault Clio approached a Year 6 boy and asked if he wanted a lift - he said "No!" and they drove off. The boy was a bit shaken by it but is fine today. I have spoken to the police today and they have taken details and will keep a close watch on the area for similar vehicles. With lighter evenings, can I stress the importance of "Stranger Danger" when children are playing outside. Can I also say " Well Done!" to the boy involved who did exactly as he had been taught in school and reported it as soon as he got home.

Thank you,

Mr Roberts

Pedal for Power Fund Raising

Pedalling for Power.
Year 2 pupil Dylan Beard has decided he, with a little help from his friends, will cycle 4000 miles, the distance from here to Uganda to raise money for Ty Hafan, Breast Cancer Campaign and Sikusi.

However, being only 6 and not allowed out of the street on his own has caused a problem. The solution.... Turbo trainers in the school hall!! A turbo trainer is like a treadmill for a bike. All children wanting to help with the challenge will be encouraged to bring their own bikes in for the week of the 15th April and hopefully some sponsorship money!! Each will take it in turns to pop their bike on a turbo trainer and cycle for as long as they can, helping Dylan to reach his £3000 target AND winning some amazing prizes for themselves as they pedal, including

Family match day tickets for Cardiff City (2 adults and 2 children)
A place on the VIP tour of Cardiff City Ground, behind the scenes look at the stadium, a chance to meet the players and may be a quick training session with them!!!
Sam Warburton's rugby shorts, worn against New Zealand last year and signed by the man himself!
Geraint Thomas' cycle jersey, gold Olympic medal winner and cyclist with Team Sky, signed by the man himself!
And lots of other fantastic prizes.

ECO SCHOOLS GREEN FLAG AWARD

Congratulations!!!!!!

The school was today awarded the Eco Schools Green Flag for the work that the children have done to improve their environment and their understanding of the World. This is a very prestigious award and reflects the hard work of everyone but especially the Eco Committee, Mrs. Street, Mrs. Price and Miss Jervis who have worked really hard over the last three years to achieve this.

The children were fantastic in speaking to the assessors and they are now thinking about where to put the flag pole.

I am really proud and know that parents will be, too

Da iawn.

Wednesday 23rd January - SCHOOL CLOSED

I am very sorry but Governors and I have taken the decision to close today. We struggled yesterday to be the only school in the area to open but there is more snow today than there was yesterday. Also BBC are still forecasting further snow this morning.

The forecast for tomorrow is better so we will look forward to having a normal day on Thursday.

The decision to close is never taken lightly but we have to consider the safety of the pupils and staff getting to and from the school site.

Thanks for your support yesterday.

Snow Update

A big thank you to all of you who got into school today, staff and children, and to those who helped with the snow clearing this morning. With snow falling tonight, I do not know what the situation will be tomorrow but if we can open safely, with enough staff as today, we will. I will make a decision in the morning and text and blog by 7.30am.

Once again, many thanks to all of the staff for ensuring that we could open today.

Mr. Roberts

Tuesday 22nd update

No after school clubs today!

If you feel it necessary due to local weather conditions you may collect your child at any point during the day.

We will monitor the weather situation hourly and keep you informed.

Thank you

Mr Roberts

Tuesdday 22nd January

There will be no breakfast club today. Pupils to start at 10am to allow staff to travel. Please keep an eye on the weather, if it gets worse throughout the day we may have to close earl.y

Again be careful when travelling - the same as yesterday.

Please make your own decision as to whether it is safe to leave your own street and inform us.

Many thanks

Monday 21st January

School will be open tomorrow for pupils unless there is further snow tonight. I drove up to the school this morning and the main roads are fine. Care needs to be taken on the estate as roads have not been cleared and I would suggest that parents avoid driving up to the school to reduce traffic and the risk of accidents ( as we did a few years ago).

Breakfast Club will be open.

Please make your own decision as to whether it is safe to leave your own street and inform us.

If there is any change over night, I shall text and blog before 7am.

Thank you for your support.

SCHOOL CLOSED 18th January 2013

School will be closed today due to the snow already on the ground and the forecast of more heavy snow all day and the continuing " Red Warning" for South Wales.

I hope all of the children enjoy the snow and we will hopefully be open on Monday.

Assume school is open next week unless you receive a text or blog saying otherwise. I will write on the blog again on Sunday afternoon.

Thanks for your support,

Mr. Roberts

Probable School Closure (Friday 18th January)

Dear Parents,

Due to the rare "Red Warning" issued this evening for RCT and the forecast for tomorrow, it is highly likely that school will be closed tomorrow. However, I will make a final decision by 7.00am in the morning based on the amount of snow on the ground and the likelihood of further snow during the day. I would advise that you make arrangements this evening in case we close. My final decision will be entirely based on the health and safety of pupils and staff.

You will receive a text if the school is closed and the blog will be updated. You can also check the RCT website and the BBC.

Thank you for your support.
