I have visited the school this afternoon and the roads to the school are similar to how they were earlier in the week, except that temperatures are rising and there is a thaw. The hill outside of the school is mostly slush.
The situation would change if ice were to form over night as the roads would then be very difficult. The weather forecast does not suggest this and that it will get warmer.
With this in mind I hope to open the school tomorrow unless ice forms ( if this happens then we will have to stay closed). A decision will be made either way at 7.00am tomorrow but I strongly expect the thaw to continue.
Having read parent comments I appreciate that some parents feel it is still dangerous where they live. If you feel that it is not possible to get to school then I will respect this and record the absence as authorised - I will leave the decision to you.
I would ask that no vehicles move around the school entrance between 8.45 and 9.15 - the situation may be very different in the afternoon.
To reiterate - UNLESS THERE IS ICE TONIGHT, SCHOOL WILL BE OPEN TO THOSE WHO CAN GET THERE. PLEASE CHECK AT 7.00AM FOR A DEFINITE DECISION.
Thanks for your support
Mr. S. Roberts
This is good news.
ReplyDeleteA big thank you to Mr Roberts and staff for the way they have managed the bad weather and kept the children safe.
wonderful news! thankyou mr roberts
ReplyDeleteI disagree the roads are still dangerous and so are the paths.
ReplyDeleteThank you for the option ref the authorised absence Mr Roberts. We should all wait and see what it is like in the morning and then decide. For people who need to work then if it is safe it is a big help if the school is open but if you are not happy then dont send them.
ReplyDeleteMe to for the sake of one day it's just not worth it it is still very slipery! The children will not be able to go out to play as it is very wet and slipery
ReplyDeletere above comment if you feel that way I suggest you keep children at home, that is your decision. Mr Roberts has made it clear that it will be an authorised absence and the ultimate decision is down to the parent.
ReplyDeleteSome of us have to get back to work
Big thank you to Mr Roberts for keeping us updated on the situation, I am very pleased your priority is the safety of our children.
I think that the past week and a half has shown that communication and the ability to make an informed decision are vital. The blog has been a significant and positive step forward - I quite enjoy 'tuning' in every night to see the latest news
ReplyDeleteI think it is a good call by Mr Roberts to be reviewed in the morning. For those people concerned about safety then they have the option of an authorised absence - my children however would welcome the return to school to see their friends etc again and get back to normal - they are going mad in the house and NEED school - the return of just a day before the weekend is well worth it!!
ReplyDeleteFootpaths and roads are not pleasant to walk on but they are turning to slush and any amount of foot traffic over them will only accelerate that process.
The road outside the school is not a safe place in the dryest of conditions - whilst conditions now are worse people are a lot more careful and vigile and arguably there are fewer cars about if as people suggest their cars are still stuck on estates....
Good call - await the decision tomorrow...
PS - Mr Roberts - you really must stop these teachers writing comments anonymously to keep the school closed... LOL - Joke

ReplyDeleteThanks for an early heads up on school opening tomorrow.... Good idea to see what conditions are like in the morning... I love the blog - its so useful for getting a quick update - hope it continues... perhaps we shld open a forum too?!?!?!?
ReplyDeleteI would just like to congratulate Mr Roberts on his fantastic leadership during this whole situation. I agree with the decision to open and give parents the option of whether to send their children or not. As many people have previously said, lots of us are expected back at work and my children are definately keen to get back to normality.
ReplyDeleteI too would like to congratulate Mr Roberts and all of the staff for the way they have handled the difficult weather. The blog is fantastic and has made the situation such a lot less stressful. We walk to school, so I have been out this evening and the paths are still very slippery. The icy slushy stuff seems to be more difficult to walk on than the snow was at the beginning of the week. I don't expect there will be any significant thaw before morning and BBC weather have warned that rain will freeze on contact with the ground. For this reason, I will be keeping my children home tomorrow. We look forward to starting afresh on Monday.
