SCHOOL CLOSED THURSDAY 14TH JANUARY

Having waited to see if there was any sign of a thaw, I have decided to close tomorrow. The snow will be no better at 9.00am and it was difficult enough on Monday and Tuesday. All the other schools in the cluster are shutting, although I am not certain about the Comprehensive.

I hope that the weather improves and we can be in on Friday but I will have to wait until tomorrow night to be sure.

Thanks for the comments today but clearing the road does have some legal implications if an accident occurs after the paths are cleared.

Enjoy the snow tomorrow and look here for updates for Friday.

Yours sincerely,

Mr. Roberts

  2. I agree too, i would rather my children home safe. Although Monday and Tuesday was a well thought through decision it was very difficult trying to get the children into and out of the school grounds with younger siblings intow!!

  3. Yes I agree although it was well thought out it was still very diffucult and my child was getting destresssd by the change of plans I also seen numerous children upset it's not worth it!! I think the best option would be to close the school for the rest of the week and reopen on Monday when it'll all be clear and safe to get to and from school also the children will be able to go out!! I will be keeping my child home this week and some parents I have spoken to are goin to do the same as people have said "better to be safe than sorry"

  6. Fantastic to have prior notice tonight... Much appreciated... Whilst I appreciate that many parents who are trying to get into work will want the school open as soon as possible I would far prefer to keep them home safe instead of risking trying to get to school at all cost.. I really struggled to get to school on Tuesday with 3 little ones in tow.... And the end of the day was even worse with the 'blizzard'.... I think it would be wise to write off the week to be hinest and start anew on Monday

  7. After talking to my brother in law and hearing about the state of the roads on crown hill this morning the right decision was made. He couldn't stop at the white line at the end of street and every junction he slid! In the end he left his car and walked back home!

  8. I think Mr Roberts is right taking one day at a time. Closing the school causes huge problems for those of us who need to get to work. If it is SAFE to open the school on Friday then I will be sending my child in. I have missed three days of work already due to snow. Many of us do not have family to call on to childmind.

  9. I agree with all of the comments above but the last one that was posted at 8.13 14th January I agree with the strongest. We do not have family to turn to and I have missed two days of work this week and two last week. It is very hard to ring into work to say to my line manager I have to stay home again as the school is closed, when she has no idea how bad it is up here as she is living in Cardiff and the roads are clear here.
The safety of the children and the staff should be paramount in all decsisions made and I believe Mt Roberts has made the right ones in closing the school every time.
Well done again Mr R and all the staff and let's not forget Mr Hole who does a terrifc job for Maesybryn!
Roll on Monday and hopefully back to normality and remember it won't be long when we will all be complaining it is too hot!!

  13. I think we should wait untill Monday to open the school for a new fresh start. I won't be taking my children to school on Friday I like many others can't get out of my estate. Better be safe than sorry.

  14. Why struggle in for the last day of the week - the children have been given enough work to do at home so why not shut until Monday when everything will have cleared and ensure everyones safety.

  17. It's not just the roads I'm more concerned about the pavements they got worse on tuesday so I can not imagine how bad they will be tommrow! I am another one who agrees with the above comments about waiting until Monday to open!

  18. I very much hope that the school will be open tomorrow - as long as it is safe, of course. Unfortunately, I am not in a position where I can afford to keep taking days off work. Thanks to Mr Roberts and all the staff for their hard work earlier this week, it was much appreciated.

  19. It would be worthwhile considering procedures that other schools use, such as texting parents. This could be useful all year round also not everyone has easily access to the internet whereas mobiles are more commonly owned.

  20. Yes I agree the staff worked hard Monday and Tuesday but it was still dangerous and very difficult with younger sibilings in tow! I understand some parents work but i would rather keep my child home tommrow and go back on Monday when the area is clear and the children can go out to play in a safe enviroment

  21. The estates are still bad!! A simple walk to the shops with my children was dangerous today I still cannot get my car out! I think for the saftey of staff, children and parents is to stay closed tommrow

  22. I agree. For the sake of one day, where the children will not be able to get out at all during the day if the yard is not clear, we should wait until Monday when everything will be clear. The morning drop off and afternoon collecting the kids will be very difficult.

  23. I live on crown hill, the main road by spar is clear, the pavements seem to be a lot better not as slippery, if the school is open my child will be attending.

  24. I agree with the post at 17.55 for the sake of 1 day it's not worth it it is very difficult dropping and piking up the children! Reopen on Monday when everything will be back to normal
